My name is Vanessa Benedetti and it was my own daughter’s struggle with dyslexia that sent me on the path to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT). After 2 years of training with ASDEC (Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center), including 500 practicum hours, 30 course hours, 20 supervision hours, and passing the Alliance National Exam, I received my certification from ALTA (Academic Language Therapy Association) in June of 2021. As described by ALTA, an ALTA Certified Academic Language Therapist provides diagnostic, explicit, systematic Multisensory Structured Language intervention which builds a high degree of accuracy, knowledge, and independence for students with written-language disorders, including dyslexia. I am a member of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) and have achieved the highest level of competency in the field of dyslexia education.
Having spent all my childhood in India, Pakistan, and various countries in Africa as a daughter of an international aid worker, I understand the experiences and challenges children face as third culture kids. As a parent of foreign service kids who have lived in 7 different countries, including the US, I also understand the struggles of helping a child overcome reading and math difficulties while navigating the ever changing school environment.
My education includes a Master of Arts in Education from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, and a Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College.
I also have a strong interest in math and provide multisensory math tutoring for elementary students.
